Captioner doesn't collect anything.
Last updated October 7, 2026
What Captioner does with your files
Captioner transcribes and captions videos entirely on your Mac using Apple's on-device speech recognition and your Mac's video encoder. The videos you open, the captions made from them, and the videos you export never leave your computer. Exports are written next to the original or wherever you choose.
What Captioner collects
Nothing. Captioner has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It does not transmit your videos, captions or any personal data to us or to anyone else.
Speech models
The first time you caption a language, macOS downloads Apple's speech model for that language from Apple. That download is handled by macOS under Apple's privacy policy; your audio is not part of it.
Updates
Captioner checks beardfm.app for new versions using the open-source Sparkle framework. That request carries the app's version and your macOS version so the right update can be offered, and nothing else. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings.
Settings and fonts
Your preferences, saved styles and any font files you add are stored locally on your Mac and nowhere else.
